Get us on Google Plus, stat
BOSS: Have you started our Google+ page yet?
ME: No, not really. TBH there’s no traffic, our target demographic doesn’t use it, and I don’t have enough hours in the day to focus on another social network.
BOSS: Yeah but we have to be on Google+!
ME: Why?
BOSS: I keep reading about it on the social media blogs.
ME: But it doesn’t mean it’s suited to us - and we have to consider the cost benefit right? We have a thriving community onsite, and are getting good traction from Twitter and Facebook. Unless you get me a junior community manager then I will have to stay even later than I already do. I just don’t think there’s any justification for getting involved on Google + yet.
BOSS: I don’t care. Everyone else is getting on it. JUST MAKE IT HAPPEN.

Stupid newbie doesn’t get it
I manage a large forum, which attracts people who aren’t majorly used to the way the web works.
One of them really got to me today, so much so I nearly dropped my happy facade of community manager and told them to go f*ck themselves and that they fail at the internet so hard they should log out before they hurt themselves.
Email from idiot: “Hi I been postng on [forums I manage] and a frend told me they did a google and saw everything i written why??? take it off now!!! “
I explained the basics of how the web works ie. they submitted content to a public forum, which is then crawled by google, and served up as search results. Needless to say I lost them at “crawled” and I have apparently now been reported to the FBI for raping their privacy.
FMCML indeed.
